Spring Residential Roof Maintenance in Vancouver

May 29th, 2018 | in General Roof Info, Residential Roofing

Spring has come quickly to Vancouver this year. With the sudden end to winter, it may be a good time of the year to start looking into spring roof maintenance for your home. Harsh winter weather and storms can take a big toll on the exterior of your family home and its roof. Now that temperatures are climbing into more tolerable levels, and the sun is making an appearance – it may be a good time to check off this list for springtime roof maintenance.

Inspect Your Roof’s Shingles
It is important to get a close up look at your roof after a harsh winter. Most roof damage is not visible from the ground, so it may be a good idea to bring out a ladder and inspect your shingles closely. Any shingles that appear to be curling, buckling, or missing should be replaced or repaired to avoid any potential damage and leaking.

Clean Your Home’s Gutters
Gutters should be cleaned of any debris at least twice per year – in the spring, and in the late fall. Overflowing gutters can cause water damage to your home, damaging the home and siding. Any leaves and other debris should be removed, and gutters can be cleaned out with an appropriate cleaner. Make sure to check the downspout as well to be sure it is not blocked.

Repair Damaged Flashing
The flashing around chimneys and skylights can become loose or cracked during the winter – potentially causing leaks when it rains. It is important to check for these issues and repair as necessary.

Now that the weather has become much more temperate and it is raining less and less as we come closer to summer, it is a great time to inspect and make any necessary repairs to your home’s roof. Doing these repairs and inspections frequently can save headache and potential costs own the road.
