April 23rd, 2019 | in Commercial Flat Roofing

If the time is coming for a flat roof repair or new flat roof construction on your commercial building, you may be wondering what material options are available. Your commercial roofing company such as Laurentian Roofing is able to work with:

- Single Layer Membrane Roof

- Built up Roof

- Modified Bitumen Roof

Single Layer Membrane

A single layer membrane roof is the industry standard for most commercial roofing options. This roofing option is available in a variety of materials, most commonly being ethylene propylene diene monomer, a authentic rubber-like material. The material is applied as a single layer, attached using an adhesive.

Built Up Roof

Built up roofs have been used for over 100 years. These roofs are made using a roofing felt material that is combined with asphalt. The material is applied to the roof structure in several layers, using bitumen to adhere it to the structure. This type of material is usually applied 3-4 layers thick, to ensure no water will make its way through. This type of roof often requires a small layer of crushed rock to lay on top to protect it from UV damage.

Modified Bitumen Roof

Modified Bitumen Roofs are an improvement on Built Up Roofs. This roofing types uses the same roofing felt and asphalt materials, but adds a polymer protective layer called a cap sheet. This cap sheet helps to protect the shingles underneath from environmental damage, as they are more durable.

While a single layer membrane roof might be your best option, you should talk to the experts at Laurentian Roofing to get expert advice on which roofing materials will be best for your commercial building flat roof repair, or new flat roof construction.
