Commercial Roof Waterproofing Techniques
The number one way to get the most out of your commercial roof is to ensure it is watertight and impervious to the elements. Because even the smallest leak will allow water ingress which can do major damage over time.
There are 3 main types of commercial roof waterproofing in Vancouver: Single-ply membrane, liquid waterproofing, and reinforced bitumen membrane. These are very effective in keeping water out, especially in our wet, rainy climate.
Single ply membrane (TPO)
- TPO is great for big buildings as it comes in large sheets up to 20m wide. It offers excellent resistance to heat, wind, UV rays, and fungus. It’s lightweight and flexible, safe and easy to install, low-maintenance, strong and durable.
Liquid waterproofing
- Liquid roof membrane: main protective coating that is flexible, lightweight, durable and long lasting.
- Liquid roof coating: secondary protective coating designed as a weather-proofing barrier. Easily applied over existing roof types to extend their life. Protects the roof from water, wind, and sun. Available in acrylic, silicone and polyurethane.
Reinforced bitumen membranes
- Thin Layers of asphalt and modified bitumen provide superior waterproofing and weather protection. Inhospitable to most pests, vermin, rot, and moulds. Lighter than BUR roofs, incredibly durable and long lasting.
All three of these options will help keep your commercial building watertight and dry. Proper installation is vital so look for experienced professionals to carry out the job.
Since we live in a wet environment much of the year in Vancouver, roof repair is essential as soon as problems are discovered. Even better is a proactive approach. Schedule regular maintenance to ensure your roof stays in good condition. This simple measure will extend your roof’s life by years.
