Roof coatings are a great way to extend the life of your commercial roofing in Vancouver. They offer a variety of benefits, including withstanding water and reflecting UV rays. But they also have some disadvantages like attracting dirt or becoming less effective over time.
Reflective: Some roof coatings–silicone, for instance–are excellent for reflecting the sun’s harmful UV rays. This provides two valuable benefits. One, is energy savings. When sunlight is reflected off the roof, the building absorbs less heat, meaning you save money on cooling costs. The second benefit is extending the life of your roof. Since sunlight is inherently damaging to roofing materials, reflecting it away from the roof means less sun damage occurring over time. This can add ten years to your roof’s lifespan.
Smooth: Some coatings are very smooth, making it hard for organic material, like mosses and lichens, to find a foothold.
Some coatings, like acrylic, offer value for your money, reduce energy costs, and are extremely durable. They can be applied to new roofs and to existing roofs, and to almost any roofing material.
Exceptional waterproofing: Some coatings are able to withstand ponding water.
Energy savings diminish: Some coatings lose their reflective properties over time. However there’s an easy fix. Another application will bring your roof back to the same high level of performance as before.
Coatings like silicone are magnets for dirt. So if your roof is visible, another coating may work better, aesthetically.
Acrylic roof coatings do not shed ponding water very well, so if ponding is a problem on your roof, another coating, like silicone, will be better.
There are different types of roof coatings, and different types of roofs, each with their own unique situations. Contact a commercial roofing company in Vancouver so they may advise you on which commercial roof coatings work best for your particular building.
